23-yr-old UP youth electrocuted during repairs on barge

PONDA: Vikas Kumar, a 23-year-old sailor from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, lost his life on Saturday due to electrocution while performing repair work on a barge at the Vagurme dock.

According to the Mardol police, Kumar was engaged in cleaning and repairing the barge when the accident occurred. Witnesses reported that while he was working, he slipped and fell. In an attempt to regain his balance, he inadvertently grabbed a live electric bulb, which resulted in an electric shock. Kumar fell to the ground and was immediately transported to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Ponda, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Mardol Police conducted an inquest panchanama at the hospital and later preserved the body at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) in Margao and the postmortem confirmed electrocution as the cause of death.

The police have registered an unnatural death case and a case under Section 194 of the Bureau of Non-Safety Standards (BNSS) in connection with the incident.
