Angry Old Goa protestors says no to projects near heritage sites

Specify three projects that are proposed in Old Goa near heritage sites should be scrapped

OLD GOA: Protestors from across the state gathered at Old Goa, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, to demand a stop to development projects near the heritage sites. They listed three projects – the CMR real estate project near Monte Hill church; another 1,65,000 sqm metre project and the Interpretation Centre which are within 100 metre of State Monuments. They also demanded for a Master Plan for Old Goa. They later garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, at Old Goa.

"Besides the UNESCO World Heritage sites there are seven state monuments in Goa. The TCP minister claims that these sites have been marked. In the government gazette, published last year only national monuments are listed, not state monuments. All the illegalities in Old Goa have happened near State monuments," Glen Cabral of Save Old Goa Action Committee said.
