MARGAO: Angry locals of Sao Jose De Areal called the Maina-Curtorim police to complain about a truck allegedly caught dumping cement waste and other material, polluting the village.
While the incident took place on private property, activist Freddy Travasso said that residents from the neighbourhood had complained about the pollution.
What was more interesting was that the truck that had reportedly transported electricity poles to the site had an ‘on government duty’ sign pasted on its windshield.
This became another point of contention as the driver of the truck could not give satisfactory responses or present the relevant documents to show why a vehicle that was hired by the government was involved in this activity.
Locals also demanded that the village panchayat intervene and check for what purpose the activity was being carried out, and if all permissions were in place.
The Maina-Curtorim Police also carried out their preliminary investigations based on the complaint.
