Facilitate train travel for Goans

Published on

Train no. 01596 leaves from Margao railway station, around 4.30 pm and goes right up to Karwar station and then, the number changes to 16596 ( Panchaganga Exp), which goes upto Bengaluru City station and reaches SBC station around 7 in the morning.

In the evening, this train leaves with same name but different train number and reaches Karwar around 8.30 in the morning.

It then halts at Karwar for a few minutes, changes its name and number and comes to Margao as its final destination. Then, cleaning of the coaches is carried out, as well as refuelling and refilling of water, after which it departs again to Karwar at around 4.30 pm. The purpose of writing this email is to bring to your notice how much inconvenience it causes for Goans travelling to Bengaluru from Margao.

If someone needs to travel to Bengaluru, he first has to book a reserved ticket from Karwar to Bengaluru and then buy a local ticket from Margao to Karwar. Once at Karwar, the passenger has to alight with luggage and embark the reserved compartment.

It is the same case, while returning from Bangalore, once the train reaches Karwar, the passenger will have to alight and book a local ticket to Margao.

To do so is a real headache at Karwar since only one counter is open in the morning and the train halts just for a few minutes.

My question is, when this train does cleaning, refuelling etc, at Margao why do we Goans have to pay so much from Margao to Karwar and vice versa.

It would be better if the railway authorities notify Margao as the starting point and returning station for this train as it leaves and arrives at this station. If this is not possible, then one coach should be reserved for passengers from Margao right up to Bangalore and vice versa as it will help Goans as well as domestic tourists who travel from Karnataka to Goa.
