Haphazard Smart City work execution in Panjim: A call for accountability

Published on

As a concerned citizen of Panjim, I am writing to express my disappointment and frustration with the haphazard execution of the smart city project in our city. The ongoing construction has completely blocked access to several residential areas, including Shivkripa, Gharse Tower, and the entire Ramakant Apartment. The lack of planning and execution has caused significant inconvenience and safety concerns for residents. The absence of proper signage, diversion routes, and timely completion has led to confusion and chaos among commuters.

Moreover, the recent visit by Hon’ble Judges of the Bombay High Court, Goa Bench, led to temporary covering of gutters/drains, only to be dug up again after the rains stopped. This lack of accountability and transparency is alarming. We urge the authorities to conduct thorough risk assessment and develop contingency plans for emergency situations, develop an integrated infrastructure map, including sewerage lines, water supply lines, rainwater drains, electrical cables, and mobile operator conduits. Also to engage with the community and stakeholders to ensure that the project meets the needs of residents. To establish accountability mechanisms, including penalty clauses for negligence or delays. We request immediate intervention to address these concerns and ensure that the smart city project is executed efficiently and effectively.
