I had highlighted the issue of the sorry state of Corjuem cable-stayed bridge around 10 years back on O Heraldo (September 2013) and it is pity to note that the things have remained unchanged since then – the lack of maintenance to the bridge.

I happened to check the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (GSIDC) website and got to know that this cable-stayed bridge was built in 2004 and on its completion was the sixth of its kind in India. It is really sad that such a piece of engineering marvel built spending crores of rupees have been left in such a pitiful state (pictures are self explanatory).

Now, we can see so many cable-stayed bridges come up in Goa and one can only hope that they don’t witness the same fate.

There are so much talks going on development and new major projects but what about preserving that is already existing, especially a mega project like this?

Hope, this bridge will again get a facelift with a new coat of paint before the monsoon sets in.  The government should seriously think of having a good long term plan with necessary budget provisions to make sure mega projects such as the Corjuem cable-stayed bridge are well maintained, so that they successfully complete their life span.
