Supply quality vegetables at horticulture outlets

Supply quality vegetables at
horticulture outlets
Published on:

On Friday, I happened to visit a horticulture outlet in Siolim and was shocked to see the quality of onions and potatoes allegedly supplied by the Goa State Horticultural Corporation Limited. The potatoes had dirty black soil all over them, while the onions were partially spoilt and stinking. The prices were the same as those of the Mapusa market but the quality was horrible. The less said the better, of the other greens supplied by the department.

One fails to understand if the supply here was meant for human consumption or for cattle feed. The vendor complained that the department's produce is often of poor quality.

The purpose of setting up these outlets is to supply fresh and edible vegetables to the consumer

and the department should see to it that they pull up their suppliers and terminate their contracts if the veggies are not up to the mark.
