CJI calls for “conscious courts” aware of social realties as reflected in the new “lady of justice”

PANJIM:  Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud said the Supreme Court has changed the “lady of justice” who now holds the Constitution instead of the sword, which has the power to transform society and does not have a blindfold. This has been done to reflect “conscious courts” which are aware of social realities.

Law is not blind. Justice cannot be abstract, it should be conscious of the socio-economic barriers and the challenges people face. He also said that the judgements of the Bombay High Court should be made available in local language.
