PANJIM: The Congress Party on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the PWD principal chief engineer demanding complete transparency in road repair works and warned to launch protests if road repair works don’t start within next 10 days.

A three-page memorandum signed by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar has stated that details of work orders should be made public specifying all technical details of the works carried out. It has also demanded quality control checks during the works.

“We urge the Public Works Department to take strong action against contractors who are responsible for sub-standard works. Such contractors must be blacklisted and their names should be made public to ensure transparency and accountability,” Patkar stated in the memorandum.

The Congress has also urged PWD not to start any works without issuing work orders. All work orders should have all technical and commercial details of the works being carried out, mentioned Patkar.

The Congress president has also urged the PWD to display work order at the site where road works are undertaken as it will help public to know who is doing the work and hold him accountable.

The Congress has further stated that PWD engineers and officials should remain continuously present at the sites where road works are carried out and check quality of work.
