DEATH TRAPS IN PERNEM: Malpe and Mandrem roads witness frequent accidents

PERNEM: The old National Highway 66 at Malpe Pernem has been become a death trap with deep potholes. There is heavy traffic of trucks, buses and other interstate vehicles on this road. In the past two weeks at least three vehicles including containers have overturned on this highway due to the potholes. The Mandrem Main Road has also become a death trap with many bikers falling off their vehicles.

The new National Highway 66 at Malpe is closed for 3 months after landslides and collapse of the protection wall which has not been repaired. Traffic is diverted via the old highway which is narrow and full of potholes. There are frequent accidents on this narrow old highway due to deep potholes.

The road at Main road at Askawada Mandrem has become a death spot with many potholes. Many bike riders have fallen down while negotiating the potholes. If panchayat taken action to repair the road the PWD takes action against the panchayat. But the PWD itself is doing nothing to repair the main road. Locals said MLA Jit Arolkar had assured to hot mix the road within 2 months but nothing has happened.
