Deepashree held in multiple cheating cases, remanded in judicial custody

PONDA: Deepashree Sawant, who was arrested by Ponda Police on November 4, was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court and remanded to 14 days' judicial custody. However, later, Mardol police arrested her on transit remand in connection with a cheating case filed against her by WRD Engineer Sandeep Parab on November 7. Parab alleged that she collected Rs 3.88 crore from 44 job aspirants and handed it over to her, thereby cheating him.

Meanwhile, Shruti Prabugaonkar, who was arrested by Ponda Police on November 12, in connection with the cash-for-job scam, was produced before the JMFC Court, where her police custody was extended by six days. Shruti is linked to the Nuvem BJP Mahila Morcha.

Prabugaonkar was arrested following complaints filed by Dhavali-based teacher Yogesh Cuncolenkar, who alleged that he collected Rs 1.20 crore from around 20 job aspirants and handed it over to Shruti, who promised them government jobs but failed to deliver.

Meanwhile, Vishaya Gawde of St Jose De Areal, Salcete and Soniya alias Roshan Somnath Achari of Achariwada, Sadashivgad-Karwar, who were arrested in connection with a job scam, were produced before the JMFC in Margao. The Margao police secured a five-day remand for further investigation. The duo have been booked under Section 420 read with Section 34 of the IPC.
