PANJIM: The Calangute Police has booked a businessman from Delhi for allegedly attempting to outrage the modesty of a businesswoman from Russia.

The FIR was registered on October 12, 2023, upon a complaint lodged by the 42-year-old Russian businesswoman, who resides at Andheri, Mumbai, stating that one Bipul Sharma, a businessman from Delhi, attempted to outrage her modesty at a resort at Calangute.

As per the complaint, the accused pushed the victim on the bed, forcefully kissed her and tried to outrage her modesty. The victim alleged that the incident took place after Bipul and she discussed work concerning import and export of computers at the resort where both of them were staying.

Police also stated that the accused and the victim wanted to arrive at a settlement and liquidate the business transactions but failed to arrive at a consensus.

“The accused booked two rooms one for the victim and the other for him at Calangute and decided on a date for the meeting. On the day of the incident, the victim summoned him to her room and then things went awry. The victim then fled from her room claiming that the accused Sharma tried to outrage her modesty,” the police stated.

Police also stated that as per Supreme Court guidelines since the sentence for molestation is below seven years they could not arrest the accused but have issued a notice to him under Section 41 of Cr PC.

The FIR has been registered under Section 354 of the IPC and police investigations are on.
