Ex Sancoale Sarpanch on indefinite hunger strike against Bhutani project, in Goa

Ex Sarpanch of Sancoale Village Panchayat and Senior Citizen Premanand Naik says the project was scrapped when he was Sarpanch

VASCO: Ex Sarpanch of Sancoale Village Panchayat and Senior Citizen Premanand Naik has gone on an indefinite hunger strike from 21st October 2024, demanding revocation of licence to Bhutani Infra or Parmesh Constructions. Opposition Panchayat members and activists are strongly supporting him.

The people, activists and opposition Panchayat members are waging an eight month long battle to cancel all the licences given to Bhutani Infra due to the massive 660 luxury apartments and 40 private villas which will overwhelm the population and character of the village.

Premanand Naik, Ex Sarpanch of Sancoale Village Panchayat said, “In 2007, 2008, 2009 this project had come up as MTech, when I was sarpanch. We opposed it tooth and nail. Ex MLA Simon D’Souza and we went to High Court and stopped the project. Now they have brought it under the guise of Bhutani. In the Goa Assembly the Chief Minister and the TCP Minister has said that they will withdraw the project. But when we visited them, both are passing the buck.”

Activist Peter D’Souza said they had gone to the court and done an agitation. “Sancoale panchayat has become notorious for illegal work. Even after doing this don’t you (panchayat members) have shame. Don’t you have humanity? Don’t you have a heart? What are you going to do with all the money? Think of the future of our village,” Peter said.
