On Friday, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) CMD BJ Upadhyay received a memorandum from Dabolim, Vasco, and Mormugão MLAs asking for preference for Goans in job openings.
We came to the conclusion that local employment should be given priority by Vasco's central agencies. Goans ought to be given preference when it comes to employment.
"We strongly condemn this”, Godinho said, expressing concern about Goans being marginalized while non-locals find work. Godinho said, ‘today we met the CMD of GSL, and we plan to engage other officials, including those from Dabolim Airport, MPA, and the Indian Navy, on the same issue’. He said that voters ask them why they don't have jobs at the shipyard even though they have the necessary qualifications.
Krishna Salkar, a Vasco MLA, stated that they have previously discussed this issue with the CMD and that this is not the first time they have brought it up. ‘Locals deserve priority in employment because they bear the brunt of these agencies’ effects, such as traffic, noise pollution, and disturbed sleep. ‘This is just the beginning, and other agencies will receive similar appeals’, he said.
