PANJIM: Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai has expressed his concern over the fall in Christian Population and the spike in Muslim population in Goa. Pillai said at a church event in Kochi on Sunday that he had asked the Archbishop of Goa to look into why the Christian population in the state had gone down while its Muslim population went up
According to the Governor, the Muslim community in Goa has grown from 3 per cent to 12 per cent while the Christians witnessed a fall from 36 percent to 25 per cent Pillai said he also urged Goa Archbishop to investigate these trends, and said they are currently working on it.
He later told media: “I did not mean any religion. At the time of Liberation (of Goa), Christians were the prominent segment. Recently, I read an article that said the Christian population has come down to 25%.” The Christian population was 36% at the time of Liberation.
Later at another event, Pillai clarified that what he meant was “brain drain.”
