BICHOLIM: The Bicholim Municipal Council on Friday demolished eight huts at Pirachikond, even as altercation broke out between the land owner and the occupants.

The structures were razed following directives of the High Court of Bombay at Goa. Earlier, on three occasions, the civic body had attempted to demolish the huts but demolition was stopped since the matter was sub-judice.

When the demolition squad with bulldozers reached the spot, it was panic among the occupants, who sought time to remove their belongings. Also an altercation broke out between the landlord and the occupants. The occupants complained that they were not given any information, while, the municipal authorities stated that the occupants were told that the illegal structures will be demolished.

Bicholim Mamlatdar Pravin Gawas, who was present at the site told them not to obstruct the demolition drive and requested them to collect their belongings from the municipal council. A strong police force was also deployed at the site to maintain law and order.
