PONDA: A chilling murder was reported in Avantinagar, Usgao, where Baliram Chandagadkar, 65, was found dead in his bed with severe injuries and a koyta (machete) lying nearby. His son, Pramod Baliram Chandagadkar, 40, was found hanging from the roof in the same house. The incident has left the village in fear and confusion.

Ponda DySP Shivram Vaigankar said the police suspect that Pramod may have murdered his father before taking his own life. The motive remains unclear. The cause of death for both individuals will be determined after post-mortem reports.

DySP Vaigankar and Ponda PI Vijaynath Chidankar responded to the scene, with a forensic team arriving to investigate. According to Usgao-Ganjem Sarpanch Ramanth Dangui, the family, originally from Karnataka, had been living in Usgao for several years. The murder came to light when Pramod’s married sister, Parvati, arrived at her maternal home for the Tulsi Vivah ceremony and found the bodies.

Sarpanch Dangui urged a thorough investigation into the mysterious deaths, noting that when he visited the house, Pramod was found hanging while Baliram lay dead with blood and injury marks. The case has left the community unsettled, especially considering a similar tragedy from a decade ago when Parvati’s husband, Shankar Desai, was also reportedly murdered in Takiwada, Usgao.
