PANJIM: Residents and mostly walkers visiting the Jogger’s Park at Altinho say that non-functional streetlights have plunged the area into darkness for the last few days.

The darkness was posing a serious concern to workout enthusiasts and early morning walkers. Concerns regarding this issue's implications for safety and security were voiced by locals and frequent visitors but in vain.

Activist Tanoj Adwalpalkar said that he and many walkers from Panjim and surrounding areas have been regularly visiting the Jogger’s Park but to their dismay it is plunged into darkness. The walkers are now bringing torches with them or are using mobile phone torch lights even as walking at night is a nightmarish experience and there could be an incident of snake bite and attack by stray dogs on roads.

According to Adwalpalkar, the streetlights are non-functional while, high mast lighting and solar lights are also not working. The high mast lighting is only blinkering, he said urging the authorities to repair the streetlights and make them functional.
