Karnataka native booked for illegal sand transportation

PANJIM: A 24-year-old truck driver from Karnataka has been booked by Mopa police for allegedly transporting sand without proper permits or authorisation. The accused, identified as Kumar Chawan, is a resident of Sindhudurga, Maharashtra and originally from Bijapur, Karnataka.

The case was initiated after Vincent D’Souza filed a complaint, stating that Chawan was caught transporting freshly extracted river sand near Babloo’s Restaurant in Mala, Casarvernem, Pernem. The transport was being conducted in a tipper truck without the necessary permits.

Police have confiscated the truck and the sand. The accused has been summoned under Section 35 of the BNSS, and further investigation is being led by PSI Swapnil Kinalkar from the Mopa Airport Police Station.
