Lifeguards avert tragedy after boat with tourists overturns in Baga

CALANGUTE: Alert lifeguards averted a major tragedy when a boat carrying a group of 12 tourists from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for a joyride at Baga beach, Calangute, overturned throwing them into the sea on Wednesday.

Two of the tourists have been admitted in hospitals. One of them, a 42-year-old woman was pulled out in an unconscious state during the rescue operation and brought ashore. After administering one cycle of CPR, she was revived and handed over to 108 medical services, who shifted her to hospital.

A 35-year-old man, who was rescued, had to be placed in a recovery position until his airway was cleared by a lifesaver. After he partially recovered, he was sent to the Candolim PHC and later shifted to a medical facility.

Two children, a 4-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy, who were trapped under the overturned boat were also rescued and brought safely ashore.

The incident occurred at around 2.50pm when the boat capsized around 100 mts off the mouth of Baga river after it was hit by a rough wave.
