PANJIM: With 81 children of migrant workers between the age of 6 to 14 identified to be out of schools in last seven months from April to October 2024, the Directorate of Education has asked the Commissioner of Labour to make the labour contractors ensure that the children of workers employed by them are admitted to school.
Pointing out, that all school drop outs are those of migrant labourers who are constantly moving from one place to the other, the department has put the onus of getting these children admitted to school on the labour contractors employing their parents.
The contractors are mandated to give declaration of proof of admission of the children to the Commissioner of Labour.
According to Director of Education Shailesh Zingade, a total 97 children were out of school last year.
