PONDA: High transmission 220 KVA overhead power lines at the Bahusaheb Bandodkar Football Ground in Bandora have finally been shifted to a safer location, said Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar. This decision comes after concerns were raised about the risks posed to players and people using the walking track adjacent to the ground.

Minister Dhavalikar acknowledged the media's role in highlighting the issue, stating that constructive reports and criticisms are vital for developmental work. The lines, which previously passed over the ground and were in proximity to Zuari Agro Chemicals and Verna Industrial Estate, have been relocated with the installation of three new poles, each over 30 metres high.

Around 1,000 individuals utilise the walking and jogging track daily, in addition to local football players. The close proximity of the high-tension lines had deterred many from using the ground, raising safety concerns since the issue was first raised in 1984.

The long-standing concern about the high-tension lines had led residents to question accountability in the event of an incident. With the successful relocation, locals can now enjoy the facilities without fear, expressing relief over the resolution of this critical safety issue.
