PANJIM: The ruling panchayat members of Salvador do Mundo village panchayat on Wednesday clarified that the gram sabha held on Sunday, September 1, had to be adjourned due to ruckus created by the opposition panchas and few others who were not even villagers.

Speaking to reporters, sarpanch Bindiya Naik said that the gram sabha had to be adjourned as four opposition members tried to raise issues which were not even listed in the agenda. They brought various issues with the intention to disrupt the gram sabha and it was later adjourned and it has been informed to the Bardez Block Development Officer (BDO) and the Director of Panchayat, for necessary action.

Naik said that though the gram sabha was adjourned, the four opposition members continued it illegally. “How can they continue the gram sabha when the same was adjourned by me due to ruckus created by them? They even menacingly charged at me,” she asked.

Roshni Sawaikar said that the gram sabha was earlier adjourned on August 18 due to hill cutting in the village. She asked how can the four panchayat members continue with the gram sabha when it was adjourned by the sarpanch. They hijacked the gram sabha, she said.

Panchayat members Namrata Chodankar, Roshani Sawaikar, Krishnakant Chodankar and Rajesh Sawaikar were also present.
