PANJIM: Sao Mathias Sarpanch Prakash Volvoikar has appealed to North Goa District Collector Sneha Gitte to cancel the requisition of the village panchayat's talathi, Gauresh Naik, for duties related to the upcoming Exposition of the Sacred Relics of Saint Francis Xavier.

In a letter addressed to the Collector, Volvoikar expressed concerns over disruptions to local administrative services during the 51-day period from November 18, 2024, to January 7, 2025.

“The villagers may not receive certificates or have their other urgent work processed on time due to the absence of the talathi. I request you to either revoke Gauresh Naik’s deputation order or assign another talathi to ensure uninterrupted services for Sao Mathias residents," the Sarpanch of the village on Divar Island.

The District Collector's requisition involves 23 Talathis from various panchayats, alongside personnel from government departments like the Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation, Government Polytechnic College, Directorate of Higher Education, Directorate of Art and Culture, Water Resources Department, Directorate of Accounts, Directorate of Women and Child Development (WCD), to assist with logistical and administrative duties during the Exposition.

The Sarpanch emphasised that the absence of key local officials like the talathi would hinder the day-to-day functioning of the village, urging alternative arrangements to prevent inconvenience to the residents.
