MARGAO: The Chinchinim-Deussua Village Panchayat, comprising 11 wards, is facing significant challenges due to a lack of meeting space in its office. This shortage has impacted the panchayat’s administrative functioning and efficiency, hindering its ability to effectively serve the community.

Currently, the office lacks adequate facilities, which has forced the panchayat to rely on the church hall to hold gram sabha meetings.

Given these circumstances, the panchayat’s proposal for constructing a Panchayat Ghar and multi-purpose complex is still pending approval from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

The pressing issue of establishing a Panchayat Ghar was discussed once again at a recent gram sabha, where villagers reaffirmed their commitment to the construction of the much-needed facility.

In September, the panchayat submitted a letter to the Chief Minister, requesting to reconsider the financial approval for the construction of the Panchayat Ghar And multi-purpose complex.

Emphasising the significance of the proposed project, speaking to O Heraldo, Sarpanch Frank Viegas highlighted that the construction of the Panchayat Ghar and multi-purpose complex is essential for enhancing local governance and improving the residents’ quality of life.

He said, “Our panchayat comprises 11 wards, yet our current office space can only accommodate up to 10 members for meetings. We are unable to hold conferences within the panchayat due to space constraints.”

He claimed that this lack of space has hindered administrative work, ultimately reducing the ability to provide the best possible service to the villagers.

The Sarpanch said, “The infrastructure of the new Panchayat Ghar and multi-purpose complex will significantly enhance the residents’ quality of life by providing a centralised space for village-level governance and community interaction.”

He said that they believe the project aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen local governance and enhance rural infrastructure.

“The absence of a dedicated Panchayat Ghar in our village has created challenges for smooth administrative functioning, and this project would be a crucial step toward addressing these issues,” he added.
