Goans fighting for their lands, happy at SC judgement
PANJIM: Goans who have been fighting to save their lands from acquisition and mega projects, heaved a huge sigh of relief as the Supreme Court, in a historic judgement, ruled that all private properties cannot be part of “material resources of the community” allowing States to take them over for distribution of the “common good”.
A number of people in Goa, especially residents of Bhoma, farmers from Loutolim and those whose lands are being taken over for double tracking are fighting hard to save their lands.
In Bhoma people are fighting to save their houses and temple from the Eastern Highway from Banastarim to Ponda. In Loutolim, people are fighting to save their fields from the onslaught of the new Borim Bridge land acquisition and in Velsao and other places along the proposed double tracking people are fighting to save their houses, water bodies and properties from arbitrary acquisition.
