PANJIM: In what could stoke a political controversy and ruffle the feathers of the right wing organisations, Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Sunday condemned Hindu nationalist Nathuram Godse for assassinating Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, by committing a grave sin of taking out the light of Gandhi from lives of the nation’s citizens.

Pillai made this statement this during the release of revised book version of Gandhi v/s Godse authored by Veliyam Rajeev in Kollam, Kerala.

Showering praises on Gandhiji’s impeccable character, Pillai said, “I bow before the memory of Gandhiji. Till the world exists, Gandhiji’s ideology will light the path of humanity.”

Referring to the Kapur Commission constituted in 1966 to hold an inquiry into the conspiracy behind the Gandhiji’s assassination, which had exonerated the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from any involvement in Gandhi’s assassination, Pillai said that not a single copy of the report could be found in the country.

Gandhiji was assassinated on January 30, 1948, while he was heading for multi-faith prayer meeting.

A one-man commission consisting of Jivanlal Kapur, judge of the Supreme Court, was appointed to conduct the inquiry on November 21, 1966. To assist the commission, G N Vaidya was appointed by the Government of Maharashtra and K S Chawla, Barrister-at-Law was appointed for Government of India.
