PANJIM: Goa has the highest rate of road accidents. A number of accidents have occurred due to bad roads. Many have broken limbs and a few have even lost their lives. The government and the Smart City have been given various deadlines. As the 15 day deadline has lapsed we asked people if the govt met its given deadlines to repair roads

The chief minister made a statement that all the potholes will be repaired before Ganesh Chaturthi. Neither have they filled the potholes nor have their promises been kept. The assurances were to fool the people, the government itself is fooling the people, Amit Palekar, a commuter said.

CM has kept the PWD kha-tem (portfolio) with him and he is doing exactly that. He should have realized when he took over the portfolio it was to improve the condition of the roads. But it doesn’t look like that. More importantly, when ex PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar made a statement that PWD engineers were scared of him. This implies that he has accepted that these engineers are not scared of the CM since corruption runs from top to down, that is why the sorry state of the roads.

The state of the roads, and the state of the BJP is the same. Both are finished. We have no faith on their deadlines. We can’t blame the contractors, since heavy commissions are taken from the contractor. What is the role of the engineers, are they not supposed to check the quality? Sunil Kawthankar, a commuter asked.

Instead of holding the seniors such as Principal Chief Engineers (PWD) responsible, they are being given extensions in service. So on whom will the CM take action? All Goans are suffering due to bad roads. Whether he is a Goan, tourist, from the BJP or the Congress or any party, everyone is suffering. And this insensitive government is only out to loot.

They did say that they would fill the potholes before Ganesh Chaturthi, but they did not say Chaturthi of which year. These potholes will not be filled. It is a habit with the government to promise the people before Diwali, Chaturthi, Christmas or before Id, that roads will be done up.  They never tell Diwali, Chaturthi, Christmas or Id of which year. They know people have short term memory. They know how to play, Sarfaraz Ankalji, a commuter stated.

Not only the BJP government in Goa, but in all over India wherever BJP is ruling the condition of roads is bad. They know that if the good roads are built they will not get commissions. Every year they repair the roads to get commissions. They have even changed the tender process so that they can give the jobs to anyone.
