Goa Su-raj Party calls for unity of regional forces

MARGAO: The Goa Suraj Party has resolved to unite all regional forces, including Dayanand Narvekar's Goa Democratic Front to field common candidates in the ensuing Lok sabha polls with a common minimum program to eradicate the BJP and Congress in Goa.

MARGAO: The Goa Suraj Party has resolved to unite all regional forces, including Dayanand Narvekar’s Goa Democratic Front to field common candidates in the ensuing Lok sabha polls with a common minimum program to eradicate the BJP and Congress in Goa.

Towards this end, representatives of the regional parties are meeting later this week to discuss and ways of contesting the coming Lok Sabha polls. Goa Suraj Party and the Goa Democratic Front is also expected to hold a public meeting in Margao during the weekend.

Addressing the media, Party secretary and Youth President Savio Rodrigues said “so far our talks with other political leaders, parties and socio-political forums have been moving ahead smoothly. With GDF already supporting our stand for all regional parties to come together with Common minimum program, we have decided to hold a closed-door enclave of all regional forces to thrash out differences and come under a CMP. Even former MLA Victoria Fernandes has agreed in principle to our intent, but would like to meet with concerned regional forced to agree to a CMP. We have also initiated talks with Goa Vikas Party and the UGDP, but we are yet to have a conclusive discussion on our plan”.

He said the GSP want to unite the regional forces on the twin issues of special status and reworking of the Gadgil formulae to ensure Goa gets 50 per cent of the central taxes.

Savio has demanded an immediate inquiry into the influx of Bangladeshi migrants into Goa, with a further demand that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar set up a probe to identify the political nexus in the trafficking of Bangladesh migrants into Goa.

“Narendra Modi should eradicate Bangladeshis from Goa rather than inviting Hindu Bangladeshis into India,” he added.

Condemning the police action against the MLAs Vijai Sardesai and Reginaldo Lourenco, Savio said there was absolutely no stone pelting against the police by the MLAs or by the crowd at the carnival bash at Fatorda.
