MARGAO: Overgrown tree branches protruding on the road at Davorlim-Dicarpale pose a danger to commuters and pedestrians as well.

Locals who regularly use the road say that the branches need to be trimmed by the authorities concerned as the overgrowth obstructs view of riders and drivers.

“The trees can be dangerous and could lead to accidents incase the branches fall due to strong winds and storms. Earlier due to rains and high-speed winds, many branches fell and injured unsuspecting people commuting along the road besides damaging multiple vehicles,” said residents.

Villagers alleged that the local panchayat has failed to address the issue, despite repeated demands. Residents have expressed frustration over the lack of response and accountability from local authorities. Many believe that the inaction has contributed to the growing risk posed by the overhanging branches.

Speaking to reporters, residents highlighted the serious danger posed by tree branches that have grown above live electricity wires within their panchayat jurisdiction.

“We have seen branches being trimmed and dangerous trees being felled in Fatorda and Margao; however, in Davorlim, several branches continue to threaten human lives,” claimed Anand Naik, a local resident.

He further alleged that they had previously brought this issue to the attention of the local panchayat, but no action was taken.

“Our panchayat body is more focused on musical chair politics rather than addressing critical issues that affect the general public,” he claimed.

Seby Colaco, another resident, noted that they have frequently witnessed branches falling onto moving vehicles.

“The dangerous branches need to be trimmed if they can’t cut the trees,” he urged.

He pointed out that walking under these trees has become perilous in several areas, raising safety concerns for pedestrians.

Colaco emphasized that the authorities should take this issue seriously to prevent accidents and injuries. The residents are calling for immediate action to ensure the safety of everyone in the community.
