Robberies continue in Salcete: Shops, homes targeted despite increased patrolling

MARGAO: Despite intensified police patrols, cases of theft involving gold ornaments and cash have been reported in Salcete.

While a family was away for Ganesh festivities, unknown individuals broke into their house, stealing gold ornaments and cash. This incident occurred on Sunday, but it only came to light on Monday.

In a single night, two thefts were reported in the jurisdiction of Colva police station on September 6, between 3.30 and 4.30 am. Two unknown individuals broke into a pharmacy by forcing open the shutter and made off with cash worth approximately Rs 47,722. They then proceeded to the adjacent MRK Meat Mart in Varca, where they bent the shutter and stole approximately Rs 1,20,000 in cash.

Police registered an offence under sections 331(4), 305 r/w 3(5) of BNS 2023, based on a complaint by Umesh Velip of Cordem Bali, Quepem. While the cases have been registered, no arrests have been made so far.

Additionally, Eulogio Edward Gomes of Gaudaulim, Colva, reported the theft of his parked scooter, and another Sernabatim resident reported his pick-up vehicle missing.
