Sancoale Panchayat Issues Show Cause Notice to Bhutani Infra

Demands that Bhutani comply with Mormugao Planning and Development Authority requirements including submission of necessary documents and NOCs

PANJIM: In a dramatic development concerned villagers of Sancoale, in Goa’s Western taluka of Mormugao stormed the Village Panchayat office and into the room where the Panchayat body was having its monthly meeting. The villagers who gheraoed the village panchayat members in large numbers had only one thing on their mind – to scrap the construction licence given to Bhutani Infra.

There were tense moment and the situation continued for about two hours. The people who also included activists interested in preserving the ecological heritage of Goa would not budge from the Sancoale Panchayat office.

The Sancoale woman Sarpanch who villagers alleged was never present and never speaks at meetings was present on Wednesday. Four of the opposition panchas pressed for passing a resolution to serve a show cause notice to the Parmesh Constructions alias Bhutani Infra.

Finally after about two hours, the Sarpanch and the Village Panchayat members, unanimously resolved to issue a show cause notice to Bhutani Infra and demanded that they comply with Mormugao Planning and Development Authority requirements including submission of necessary documents and NOCs within seven days, failing which the construction licence would be withdrawn.

The construction licence was granted to Bhutani Infra within a day on 11 March 2024. Activists who were present at the venue alleged corruption in granting construction licence to Bhutani Infra.
