PANJIM:  After the tolerance level of the people has been crossed, Niz Goenkars have come out on the streets in large numbers to oppose the mindless land conversion and the hill cutting. Subtle changes in the Town and Country Planning Act have been done to facilitate big non Goan builders. In this edition of Street Voices we asked people -- Are people of Goa fighting a good fight epitomising the spirit of Dussera?

Today the demon was defeated. While performing the pooja a question came to me as to which demon we should kill. Today’s demon is the politician, because he is out to destroy Goa. There is need to beat the demon, but how? We have to beat him with words. I have written a nice poem….. ‘Today’s Politician’. Today’s politicians is of a dirty nature. He is out to finish the land and the hills. He has no mercy in killing the land. He is just out to make money….

The significance of Dussera is, triumph of good over evil. Those who are finishing and raping our land, we have to fight against them, in the spirit of Dussera. Every Goan is hurt. God has created the earth with so much love, but today in Goa, with the help of the government, people with evil design come together and destroy our land. I will pray to God to give everyone the strength. I pray that youth may join the fight. I will also pray for the activists who fight for Goa on a daily basis.

Dossro means Vijayadashmi. This day Ram finished Ravan. It is the triumph of good over evil. O Heraldo has raised a very good question in this edition of Street Voices. But we have to ask ourselves the question, the protests that we do, do they reach that level? Will this destruction stop? Or will it be like Ravan, when you cut one of his head, another appears? We have to have a strong commitment. Once we start an agitation we have to fight to the finish.
