STREET VOICES: Is Goa government in holiday mood instead of saving Mhadei?

PANJIM: Environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar has alleged the failure of the government to properly brief the new Secretary of the Water Resources Department on Mhadei, before he attended  the Progressive River Authority for Welfare and Harmony (PRAWAH) meeting. In this Edition of Street Voices, we asked people whether the government was on a holiday, when it came to Mhadei, as alleged by Kerkar.

This not an issue that can be understood in a day or two. So it was exigent on the government to brief the Secretary Water Resources properly. But this did not happen. Even our advocates do not have sufficient knowledge about Mhadei. Nobody has seen the actual situation on the ground. Now the government of Karnataka has done work at Narse and without seeing this the Goa government officials are claiming that no work has been done at Narse near Kanapur.

The BJP is playing politics with Mhadei, since there is BJP government at the Centre and Goa and there is no BJP government in Karnataka. If there was BJP government in Karnataka they would have sat quiet. We have seen this in the last 5 years, the same situation would have continued. The Goa government is playing games and play acting with the Centre…..this is not for the love of Mhadei

The Goa Chief Minister is claiming Mhadei is his mother and he will not is the Goa government serious? Is your government and IAS officers serious? Is your Water Resources Minister serious about Mhadei? When there is a new IAS officer the government should have briefed him. There does not appear to be any seriousness. Navin Kumar who is the convenor of PRAWAH comes to Goa to solve the issue, or did he come to enjoy a holiday here? Are you serious about saving Mhadei when Karnataka wants to divert the water day by day? To save Mhadei should have been the priority, but government is on a holiday.

We had opposed PRAWAH right at the beginning since if we agree to PRAWAH it mean we are ready to share the waters. Government says it is very serious  about Mhadei. CM says Mhadei is bigger than a mother. But this does not appear to be true, since if they were serious, then they would have placed our proposals seriously, they would have had proper discussions on water sharing. But if they don’t attend the meeting, it is clear that Goa government has sold Mhadei to Karnataka.
