Sweets worth Rs 56400 seized by FDA at Margao KTC Bus stand

MARGAO: Surprise raids were conducted  the Food and Drug Administration on Monday in Salcete, to check for  hygienic conditions of manufacturing units of various sweets and Farsan  manufacturers and at KTC bus stand. At the Margao KTC bus stand 2 bags containing 12kgs of khoa labelled improperly as sucrose without proper a F S S A I label declaration was transported via bus without proper storage conditions was seized.

All items were disposed in the interest of public health, which were worth approximately Rs. 38400/-

In addition two carton boxes of 16 kg Agra Petha and 2 carton boxes (30kg each ) of Bombay Halwa were found being transported improperly in the Dickie of the bus with no F S S A I label declaration.

The said food items were found lined with newspaper impression on the food products. The above stock was also destroyed by the food business operator in view of public health which amounted to Rs18,000. The total stock seized was worth around Rs 56,400.

One of the restaurant located at Malbhat was investigated on complaint basis and spot inspection report was served to them directing to comply with the deficiencies with immediate effect.

Manufacturing unit at Mandopa Navelim and another restaurant located at commercial plaza, were also inspected based on a complaint directing them to comply  with the deficiencies.

These drives will continue in view of the approaching festive season as informed by Director FDA Shweta Dessai.
