The government establishes a wildlife and forest advisory panel.

Goa’s forests and wildlife are facing critical challenges due to rapid urbanization, tourism, and agricultural expansion. Deforestation is a significant concern, with large areas of forest cover lost to development projects. This loss not only threatens biodiversity but also leads to habitat fragmentation, isolating wildlife populations and hindering their survival.

According to the terms of reference issued by the forest department on Thursday, the Research Advisory Committee will focus on evaluating the research needs within the forest and protected areas of the state. This will be conducted in collaboration with field personnel.

The committee is tasked with reviewing and making recommendations on all research proposals submitted to the forest department, including those directed to the Chief Wildlife Warden for permits under Sections 12, 17, and 28 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Additionally, it will assess and endorse research proposals in accordance with the legal stipulations of the National Biodiversity Act, 2002, and the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Furthermore, the committee will examine and recommend ongoing project proposals for the revalidation of permits previously issued by the Chief Wildlife Warden, ensuring compliance with the conditions outlined in those permits.
