PANJIM: Tivim Comunidade has signed an agreement with World Peace University to part with 2 lakh square metres of land despite firm opposition. Goans and social activists had flayed the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) for deciding to grant in-principle approval to World Peace University on land belonging to Comunidade of Tivim. They said the government should improve the existing Goa University, instead of bartering away land to such institutions which grab land in the name of education.

Tanoj Adwalpalkar said, “The World Peace university which is coming up at Canca Tiviim in survey no 88/1. The total area of land allocated to them is around 2 lakh sqm. This is happening under the aegis of the Investment Promotion Board. At some function CM Pramod Sawant had said the Goa University standards are falling. So did he want to bring another University? CM should find out why the level of the university or education in general is falling.”

Tulio D’Souza, President of Guirim Comunidade said, “Through this lease of the Comunidade of Tivim there has been no clarity on the terms and conditions on which this private university will work. And whether there  will be any benefit to the locals in terms of jobs and courses being offered.”
