VASCO: IGP Sunil Garg visited Vasco police station and inspected the barracks and other premises of the police station.
IGP Garg, who was accompanied by South Goa SP Shekar Prabhudesai, Mormugao DySP Laurence D’Souza, PI Sagar IEkoskar and Traffic PI Sudesh Narvekar, inspected the entire police station including the mess and wash rooms.
Picking some flaws in the cleanliness, Garg directed the officials to maintain the police station and its other areas cleaner.
Later, Garg interacted with some citizens, who were called to have one-to-one interaction with him. Most of the citizens praised the town police for curbing anti-social activities and controlling crime in the city which had increased during the last few years.
A citizen, Meeta Kamat, while complimenting the police for providing security to the citizens, said police should avoid calling the tenants to the police station during the submission of tenant’s verification forms.
Kamat also urged the traffic PI to streamline parking of vehicles along the Swantantra Path road, as some vehicles parked along the footpath cause hardship to the residents staying in the buildings.
Another citizen, Valigno Dias, brought to the notice of Garg about the speed limit in the city and urged him to direct his officers to check speed of the vehicles, which are travelling much faster than the prescribed and notified speed.
Dias also brought to the notice of Garg the inconvenience caused by the barricades erected during nakabandhi.
Replying to the queries, Garg said his duty is to deliver justice to the citizens and to see that the city is peaceful and free from antisocial and criminal activities.
“As far as speed limit is concerned, it is not possible to manually ascertain the speed limit and to tackle the speed limit the police department is in the process of procuring speed radars and some will be allotted to Vasco traffic police,” he said.
“The police department is also in the process of procuring more alcohol detection meters to curb drunken driving on the roads,” added Garg.
“In future, there will be information-based nakabandis, where the Superintendent of Police from respective districts will decide the area of nakabandis which will be monitored by police officer of the rank of police inspector.”
As far as security of senior citizens and women are concerned, Garg said the police department is planning to come out with dedicated helpline number.
