PONDA: The villagers of three wards on Thursday gathered at the Querim panchayat office and warned that a protest rally will be taken out if the water supply is not regularised soon.

They said all dams are full and questioned how there is irregular water supply over the last 15 days. They complained that they are getting water after every two days which is not sufficient.

The villagers fear that their share of water may be diverted to Porvorim and other places.

Dinesh Naik and other villagers said that since the past 15 days they noticed that there is interruption in regular water supply and were forced to hire a tanker to supply water.

He said despite there being satisfactory rainfall there is water shortage, and taps are running dry. Naik said there is a direct main pipeline from Opa treatment plant to Panjim and ‘water to Priol and Querim has been tapped from this line since the past few years’.

When villagers met employees of PWD’s water supply section, they asked them to file a complaint with the department.

The villagers also pointed out there are several springs in panchayat areas and WRD and the water supply division should treat the water and supply it to the villagers.

Meanwhile, the assistant engineer of the water supply division at Banastarim denied there was an issue with supply of water to villagers and that they are getting regular water supply since Sunday.
