PANJIM:  People from all over, demanded the resignation of Chief Town Planner Rajesh Naik, on Tuesday, since he had signed the files that allowed massive land conversions in forests, fields and NDZ area. They had demanded cleansing of the corrupt system, since nearly half a crore – that is, 49 lakhs sqm have already been converted across the state. In this edition of Street Voices, Herald TV spoke to persons whether there is an urgent need to cleanse the political system, as politicians doing cleaning activities on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

The government is telling us to clean our neighbourhoods. Tell the government cleanliness does not mean cleaning the dirt from the road. Cleaning means clean your conscience, clean your heart, clean your mind and clean the corruption which is happening in our offices.  Clean your offices first.

The government has come forward with cleanliness campaign on Gandhi Jayanti. By cleaning the garbage, Goa will not become clean. If we have to clean Goa, there is an urgent need to clean the system. The entire system is corrupt. Most of the government babus are involved in corruption. They are supported by politicians.

Today the garbage of corruption has increased so much. If CM Pramod Sawant wants to take Goa forward then he has to clean the system of bribes, which are demanded even at the Panchayat level.

It is the political system that requires cleansing right from the bottom to the top. Now it is well known that the system is such that everything begins with the voter. And the voter, as is well known, votes for his personal considerations. And the elected representative who tries to satisfy the voter for his personal considerations and this brings in the corrupt system.

Even the bureaucrats have become subservient to the political masters to get plum postings and keep on doing everything and anything for them.
Trajano D’Mello, Political Commentator

Our Goa is clean. The dirt has been brought by the government. We have to see how clean is the government. Cleaning the road sides of dirt and plastics is not enough. The thing that has to be cleaned is the administration.

Corruption, bribery and partiality has to be uprooted from the system. You have brought migrants from outside and created vote banks. Government has to first show that it is clean and then ask the citizens to clean.
