PANJIM: The women’s cell of Save Mhadei, Save Goa Front has called a bandh in the State on March 20 to protest against the government’s failure in protecting Goa’s interest in Mhadei river diversion issue and the failure to handle fire incidents in the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary.
Addressing a press conference in the city on Wednesday, they accused the MLAs from the taluka for allegedly shielding those setting Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary on fire in their respective areas for reasons best known to them.
“Chief Minister has failed to protect Mother Mhadei, he sold Mhadei to neighbouring State. Time has come to show him and the government women’s power. I appeal to women of Goa to come forward in large numbers and support our call for Goa bandh on March 20,” social activist Ana Gracias said.
Social activist Tara Kerkar said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant-led BJP government has betrayed the people of the State as they have compromised Goa’s interest in Mhadei river issue.
“It’s time for us women to teach them a lesson and bring this government to its knees. We have to fight these evils and protect Mhadei. Forest areas are being burned by MLAs as they are now eyeing our green mountains. We ought to protect our Mother Mhadei and the fragile ecosystem of Goa,” Kerkar said.
