On
the 17th of August, 2023, a significant operation led by the Porvorim Police
resulted in the arrest of 12 individuals involved in an illicit online cricket
betting syndicate. Acting on credible intelligence, authorities unveiled an
underground network engaged in unlawful wagering on the ongoing T20 cricket
match between New Zealand and UAE. The police swiftly formed a team, which
subsequently raided a room at Hotel Mantry in Porvorim, Bardez - Goa. The raid
culminated in the apprehension of the 12 suspects who were caught red-handed
while soliciting bets.
The
seized evidence included a trove of modern technology, including 10 mobile
phones, laptops, and Wi-Fi routers, with an estimated collective value of Rs.
2,00,000/-. The individuals arrested have been identified as Sanjay Subba from
New Delhi, Karan Rajesh Patil from Akola, Maharashtra, Naveen Batra from
Raipur, Chattisgarh,Varinder Singh from Bilaspur, Chattisgarh,Amit More from
Akola, Maharashtra,Ankit Kumar from Dhanbad, Jharkhand,Suraj Nagdev from
Raipur, Chattisgarh,Kishan Poptani from Raipur, Chattisgarh,Tilesh Kumar Kurrey
from Rakja Sakti, Chattisgarh,Shrey Sharma from Raipur, Chattisgarh,Ashish
Mantry from Jaipur, Rajasthan,Mr. Ritesh Jaiswal from Mohan Garden, West Delhi.
In response to the illegal betting activity, an FIR has been registered under sections 3 and 4 of The Goa Daman & Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976. This decisive action was carried out under the vigilant supervision of SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe. The operation was executed by a dedicated team consisting of PI Sachin Yadav IPS from Porvorim PS, IPS Vikas, PSI Pratik Bhatprabhu, along with constables Yogesh Shinde, Mahadev Naik, Utkarsh Dessai, and Nitesh Gaude. This crackdown serves as a resolute step in curbing illegal betting activities within the region.
