On Saturday, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) apprehended a man employed at the Goa Shipyard Naval base in Goa on charges of divulging confidential naval information to Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), purportedly under the influence of a honey trap, confirmed senior ATS officials.
According to reports, an FIR under section 121-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), concerning conspiracy to wage war against the Indian Government, has been lodged against the accused at the ATS police station in Lucknow.
Identified as Ram Singh, 31, a resident of Ramwapur village in Pipraich, Gorakhpur, the accused was employed at the Goa Naval base, which hosts several strategic naval assets including INS Vikramaditya, INS Vikrant, Swarana, and Subhadra. Singh's role involved insulation work for a repair company stationed at the Mercury ship within the shipyard.
Officials stated that Singh came under the radar after he received a friend request from a profile named Kirti. Over the following months, he reportedly established a close rapport with the individual. Eventually, Kirti allegedly solicited Singh to clandestinely photograph naval officers frequenting the shipyard, intending to share these images with ISI operatives.
Further investigation revealed that Singh had received funds in his bank accounts from various suspicious sources, purportedly to be transferred to other ISI agents. It was disclosed that Singh had been utilizing multiple money wallets to transmit funds to the ISI.
Senior officials affirmed that Singh is being intensively interrogated to unveil the network of other potential ISI agents involved in similar activities.
