PORVORIM: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai raised the issue of a BJP MLA Sankalp Amonkar threatening companies at the Mormugao Port Authority and affecting the functioning of MPA. He also said that Birla had shifted operations to Maharashtra due to such blackmailing. MLA Venzy Viegas raised the issue of shortage of teachers in schools and exploitation of contractual teachers. St Cruz MLA Rodolfo Fernandes said govt should conduct inspection of scrapyard and ban such scrapyard in residential areas in view of the Chlorine gas leakage wherein many people were affect in St Cruz.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, speaking during Zero Hour brandished
newspapers in the House and alleged that Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar was
threatening companies and affecting the operations at the Mormugao Port
Authority. He also alleged that due to such practices, Birla Company had
shifted its operations to neighbouring Maharashtra. Vijai alleged that there
was Rs 16 cr loss due to the threats and collecting of hafta.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant claimed that he had spoken to the
MPA Chairman and said that there was no intervention of any MLA. He also
claimed that newspaper reports are not a proof, to which Vijai questioned why
the Government was advertising in the newspapers.
MLA Venzy Viegas brought to the notice of the House the
shortage of teachers in all schools and over exploitation of contractual teachers.
He demanded for the regularisation since it was leading to decline in the
educational system. Chief Minister intervened to say that he would look into
this issue.
At Zero Hour, St Cruz MLA Rodolfo Fernandes called on the
government to conduct inspection of hazardous scrapyard located in residential areas.
He cited the leakage of Chlorine gas at Bamon bhat St Cruz where several people
were hospitalised. He called for a ban of such scrapyards in residential areas.
