PANJIM: Having had his baptism and honed the football basics in England, Peter Aston Sequeira has signed for the Dempo Sports Club senior team for the season 2024-25 which will launch its campaign in GFA’s Professional League against Vasco Club on September 22, disclosed Peter’s father Allan Sequeira, former National (India) Supercross and Motorcross champion from London.

“It’s a proud moment for Shirvodem’s Navelkars, that a son of the soil, the third after stalwarts ex-internationals Cowan Lourenco and his brother Climax, has joined the leading Goan football club – Dempo SC. He has been training with the team for nearly two months now. Earlier, he has proved his mettle as a central attacking midfielder with British clubs Whiteleafe FC, ELA Academy, Kinetic Football Academy, Lewisham Borough FC as a teenager,” recalled Allan, who moved to London 14 years ago.

Football certainly runs in the blood of Goans and Peter excelled as he played in FA Youth Cup, Youth South London League, Youth London Cup and senior South London Leagues, reminisced Allan who personally supervises his son’s coaching.

Peter was called for trials at Stoke on Trent FC, Colchester FC, Crystal Palace FC, IFAPT FA, Portugal and he proved to be the playmaker, excelling in deft touch, vision, ability to shoot from range and passing prowess. He excelled for his school and university teams - Harris Academy, South Norwood London, St Mary’s University Sports Science, London, earning several trophies.

Peter has been a regular at St Mary’s University in Twickenham, London, mastering physical education with specialisation in sports psychology and sports sciences.

Peter has taken a break from the University. “I am very happy that he has been invited by Dempo SC, the team that plays attacking and attractive football,” stated Allan, who has been closely following his son’s progress.

He felt that his son is trying to imitate David Beckham, and as such aiming to raise the standard in terms of skills, technique and tactics. “He wants to become a better football professional in terms of technique with mastery over ball control and most importantly learning how to learn so as to raise the overall technical ability.”

“Peter will certainly improve on his performance as he dons the Dempo Club jersey, as the team is professional to the core. He wants to be a better central attacking midfielder and I know that the Dempo Sports Club has all the credentials in terms of expertise in coaching and other relevant infrastructure raised on scientific lines. It is a thorough professional team and for me, he is in safe, technical hands," summed up Allan, who pointed out that former international Alvito D'Cunha has been following Peter’s progress for the past 11 years.

Peter's goal is to become a thorough professional, and as such he lives and breathes football. He knows that the journey will be a very tough one, but that passion will help him to power through the negative and challenging moments. He swears that he is 100 percent committed to football and learning from professionals.
