PANJIM: Anish Naik won the Ponda Taluka Level Open Rapid Chess tournament organised by the Dhadsakhal Stars Sports and Cultural Club (DSSCC) in association with Ponda Taluka Chess Association (PTCA), at Devkikrishna Hall, Marcel, recently.
Yash Upadhye secured the second place and Soham Naik finished third in the Open category. Avnish Borker, Riddhi Gaude, Siddhiraj Gaunkar, Mayank Kurtikar, Samruddh Borker, Swayam Naik, Sourish Haldankar, Raghvendra Gupta, Parth Kamat, Avaneeshwar Guin, Badal Bhagat and NitinchandraDighe secured the 4th to 15th place respectively.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Gaurish Naik, Ridhaan Prabhudesai, Siaan Kerkar, Amaira Borkar, Sarthak Naik, Riddhi Narvekar, Samarth Gaonkar, Aarya Kamat Helekar, Nagesh Nayak, Bhumi Khedekar, Rohit Bharadwaj and Saanvi Gaude.
Betqui-Khandola Sarpanch Vishant Naik was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony. Also present were DSSCC President Atul Lawande, PTCA President Sagar Sakordekar, Tournament Co-ordinator Mangesh Gaonkar, Administrative Chairman Dnyanesh Narvekar, Nandakumar Bhagat, Pramod Kamat and Sandesh Naik.
DSSCC Joint Secretary Chandrashekhar Chodankar compered and Mangesh Gaonkar proposed a vote of thanks.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Dr Rajdatta Timble. 130 players participated. Arvind Mhamal was the chief arbiter and Milind Gaude was the assistant arbiter.
