Borda Govt College, Shree Damodar, Sanquelim College, Chowgule, Dempo College march into quarters

PANJIM: The Government College of Commerce and Economics, Borda, pipped Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Khandola, 1-0 advancing into the quarter-finals of Goa University Inter Collegiate Football Championship 2024-25 for Men, at the Goa University ground, Taleigao Plateau, on Monday.

Both teams exhibited a strong competitive spirit, as the first half concluded with a score of 0-0 draw. The decisive moment occurred in the 45th minute of the second half when Ozzie Dias netted a goal, providing Government College Borda with a crucial lead and ultimately securing their win.

In the second pre-quarterfinal match, VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao, downed Goa College of Art, Altinho-Panjim, 3-0, thereby securing a place in the quarter-finals.

During the first half, Shree Damodar College established an early advantage by netting two goals, with Naveen Gautham scoring in the 11th minute and Devkaran Ram adding another in the 21st minute. In the second half, Sohan Parge contributed to the score line with an additional goal in the 53rd minute.

In the third pre-quarter match, Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim edged past Shree Mallikarjun and Shri Chetan Manju Desai College of Arts and Commerce, Canacona, in a penalty shootout with a score of 4-3, following a goalless draw of 0-0 in regular time.

During the penalty shootout, the goals for Sanquelim Govt College were scored by Aryan Salunke, Nakul Gawas, Vishnu Dalvi, and Yash Gawas, while for Shree Mallikarjun's College Pratik Talwadkar, Swetan Gaonkar and Kishan Velip were on target.

At Rosary Church ground, Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science, Margao, moved past Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, 2-1 to march into quarter-finals.

Chowgule College netted the first goal in the 25th minute of the first half, through Adarsh Raj, while Don Bosco College mounted a strong defence to maintain a score of 1-0.

In the second half, Adarsh Raj added another goal in the 49th minute, bolstering the team's chances of win. Don Bosco College managed to score a single goal in the 67th minute, courtesy, Shahbaz Khan.

MES Vasant Joshi College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar, outplayed Narayan Zantye College of Commerce, Bicholim, 4-1, to move into last eight.

The first half featured a solitary goal in favour of MES College netted by Jagdish Chawan in the 7th minute. The second half saw MES College further extend their lead by scoring three additional goals from Jagdish Chawan (2) in the 40th and 67th minute, while Aymaan Shaikh added another in the 60th minute. Narayan Zantye College managed to score a single goal in the 47th minute, courtesy, Nikhil Kholkar.

Dempo Charities Trust’s Srinivassa Sinai Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira, scored a solitary goal win over Fr Agnel College of Arts and Commerce, Pilar. The only goal of the match was scored by Topon Minz in the 10th minute of the first half. Despite both teams’ efforts, no additional goals were recorded in either in the remaining first half nor in the second half, as they battled fiercely for win.
