MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa registered an easy 4-1 win over Panjim Footballers in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Friday.
For Flaming Oranje, Doyal Alves and Selwyn Miranda netted a brace each, while for Panjim Footballers Ajay Raj managed to pull a goal. Unbeaten Sporting Clube came aggressively into the match after their thumping 6-0 win against Vasco SC. At the other end, Panjim Footballers, who had secured their first point after seven league matches managed to hold mighty Flaming Oranje till the 36th minute of play.
After Myron Fernandes, Biswa Darjee and Francisco Fernandes goal-bound strikes travelled out. Doyal Alves combined beautifully with Joyson Gauncar and superbly finished with a scorching left footer into the goal, 1-0. In the 15th minute of play, Panjim Footballers Sainath Kankonkar saw his stiff grounder from outside the penalty box being pushed for a corner by Sporting Clube’s custodian Abhimanyu Singh.
Just two minutes into the second session and Sporting Clube’s substitute Selwyn Miranda darting inside the 18-yard box from the right flank slammed the ball into the goal, 2-0.
Sporting Clube further increased their lead in the 70th minute when Referee Ritesh Parsekar awarded a penalty after Panjim Footballers’ Shubham Vernekar tackled Sporting Clube’s Joyson Gauncar inside the 18-yard box. Doyal Alves stepped forward and scored 3-0.
Panjim Footballers coach brought Rahul Halarnkar and Ajay Raj from the bench to find Ajay slot the ball into the goal off a deadly cross by Rahul, 3-1.
A minute before the end of the regulation time, Selwyn Miranda entering the penalty box drilled a stiff grounder past the Panjim Footballers’ goalkeeper, 4-1.
