With Wednesday’s win, Cortalim Villagers have eight points from seven matches, while FC Goa stay on nine points from eight matches. The first session was a dull encounter with not a single threatening strike at the goals with both the goalkeepers having a field day. However, on crossing ends, in the 3rd minute Cortalim Villagers were awarded a free-kick on the left flank.
Ronil Azavedo’s free-kick at the goal was handled by young Gaurs Mallikjan Kalegar on the goal line, promoting Referee Deepraj Sangelkar to point to the dreaded spot and sending off Mallikjan.
Cortalim Villagers U-21 Sidney Lucas kept his cool to score from the penalty spot, 1-0.
Three minutes later, Cortalim Villagers almost doubled their lead but a power-packed right footer by U-21 Shario Gomes from inside the 18-yard box was smartly blocked for a corner by young Gaurs goalkeeper Lionel Rymmei.
From the resultant corner by Minesh Kunkolkar, Cortalim Villagers stopper back leapt high above Young Gaurs defenders and nodded the ball into the net, 2-0.
Ten-man Young Gaurs with ‘never say die’ spirit managed to pull a goal in the 65th minute, where a long ball right inside the 6-yard box saw Jovial Dias head the ball into the goal, 2-1.
However, four minutes later, Cortalim Villagers once again forged ahead where a long ball by Sidney Lucas at the far end saw Leo Gomindes take a crack at the goal which was blocked by young Gaurs goalkeeper and the ball rolled to substitute Prathmesh Gaonkar, who slotted the ball past the helpless goalkeeper, 3-1.
Once again young Gaurs came back into the match when they were awarded a penalty with Cortalim Villagers’ Delmon Rebello bringing down Jovial Dias inside the 18-yard box. Lemmet Tangvah stepped forward and scored, 3-2.
