RAIA: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, moved into the quarter-finals of 18th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup organised by Guirdolim Club at Chandor Church sports complex ground, on Tuesday.

In a closely fought encounter displaying end to end soccer, Don Bosco Oratory took the lead in the 14th minute through a spot-kick taken by Roque Borges after a Guardian Angel SC defender handled the ball inside the 18-yard box.

Hardly had the cheers from the crowd died down, Mildroy Menezes, who was the livewire for Guardian Angel SC on the right wing equalised in the 16th minute with a powerful grounder giving the Don Bosco Oratory keeper no chance.

Mildroy again put his team in the lead in the 22nd minute, bulging the net, from handshaking distance. Both teams went into the break with Guardian Angel SC leading 2-1.

Changing ends, it took 10 minutes for Don Bosco Oratory to restore parity through Edgar Noronha, who lobbed the advancing Guardian Angel SC keeper in the 45th minute. Much against the run of play, Millson Barretto of Don Bosco Oratory sealed the match in his team’s favour in the 67th minute when he connected a volley into the top corner for a 3-2 scoreline.

Mildroy Menezes was awarded the player-of-the-match award by Suraj Zambodkar, former player of Guirdolim Club.

Earlier, Wilred Leisure SC, Curtorim, downed United Club Verna 2-0 to move into the quarter-finals.

The match started with United Club of Verna coming out all guns blazing putting the Wilred Leisure SC defence under pressure.

In the 6th minute, Roydon Rego of UC Verna missed an easy chance to put his team ahead when he failed to beat the Wilred Leisure SC keeper on a one on one situation.

From the resultant corner kick, Clifton Rebello of UC Verna ballooned over. On a counter attack, John Fernandes headed in a cross floated by Eusebio to score the first goal and put Wilred Leisure SC in the lead.

UC Verna continued exerting pressure but couldn't convert their advantage into goals. Both teams headed into the break with the scoreline reading 1-0 in favour of Wilred Leisure SC.

Changing ends, UC Verna continued attacking and in the 37th minute, Savio Pereira of UC Verna tried to overpower the Wilred Leisure SC goalkeeper Johnson Bogot, who affected a brilliant save with his fingertips.

Nallister Silveira of Wilred Leisure SC beat the offside trap in the 47th minute and scored past an onrushing UC Verna goalkeeper to make it, 2-0, in favour of his team.

In the dying minute, Eusebio missed an easy one on chance for Wilred Leisure SC. Nallister Silveira of Wilred Leisure SC was awarded the player-of-the-match by Inacio Noronha.
